WKNO SALUTES DONATING ARTIST PAT NORRIS

Acclaimed Memphis artist Pat Norris has been a long-time WKNO art donor. This year is no different. Pat’s pencil drawing entitled “Young Lion” is among the many items that will be auctioned off during the premier Art of Fine Living, A WKNO Auction.

The 60-year-old artist, whose studio is in Collierville, has been creating art since she was very little. “I was bugging my parents before I even went to school to show me how to draw something,” she said.

A Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, of which there are only 600 members worldwide, Pat’s normal artist expression comes in the form of pastels. However, because she is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, she has taken more to pencil drawings because she doesn’t have to go upstairs to her studio to create them.

Pat has been donating art to WKNO for at least 20 years. She says she donates because WKNO “is an extremely good cause. Sometimes you can’t just hand over money, but you can give something that is worth something. It works out well because someone else can enjoy my work that they may not have normally bought at a higher price.” She loves the variety of programming on WKNO, especially enjoying the big band music and history programs.

Pat’s work, as well as the work of other well-known Mid-South artists, can be bid on by going to the auction website at wkno.org. Bidding on auction items will close online and on-air simultaneously during the live broadcast of The Art of Fine Living, A WKNO Auction. About 200 pieces of art and another 100 exotic travel packages and delicious dining opportunities will be auctioned off live on Channel 10 Saturday-Sunday November 7-8 from 1:00 to 11:00 p.m.

The art up for auction can be viewed anytime online at wkno.org or at the new WKNO Digital Media Center, which is open for previewing Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The WKNO Digital Media Center is located in Cordova at 7151 Cherry Farms Road.

WKNO is a non-profit, private foundation serving the Mid-South for more than 50 years.
